Idlewild and Soak Zone, known simply as Idlewild, is a family theme park in the Laurel Highlands near Ligonier, Pennsylvania, about 50 miles east of Pittsburgh. Idlewild was founded in 1878 as a campground along the Ligonier Valley Railroad by the Mellon family and is the oldest amusement park in Pennsylvania, third oldest in the United States.
Idlewild has over forty amusement rides, including two roller coasters, the Soak Zone water park with sixteen water rides and slides, outdoor concerts and events, and many children's attractions. Idlewild is divided into themed areas: Olde Idlewild, Hootin' Holler, Soak Zone, Jumpin' Jungle, Racoon Lagoon, and Story Book Forest. Idlewild has consistently ranked as one of America's Most Beautiful Theme Parks and was voted one of the Best Kid's Park in the World.
